Southold-Peconic

Many of you ask me how long I’ve been writing this column. Today marks my seventh year of sharing the news of the Southold-Peconic area. I feel so blessed and privileged to be a part of this vibrant community.

The junior high music students will present their spring concert tonight, Thursday, at 7:30 p.m.

Former Southolder Charles Witherspoon and his wife, Rachael, are so proud of their son, Cadet Colonel Marc Witherspoon. A rising senior at Cherokee High School in Canton, Ga., Marc has been named Group Commander for the school’s Air Force JROTC for 2010-11. Marc is the grandson of Southold Town historian Antonia Booth and the late C. Whitney Booth.

The final PTA meeting of the school year will take place Monday, June 7, at 3:15 p.m. in the elementary school. Board members for the upcoming year will be elected.

Happy birthday to Jim Rich on June 2; Christine Galati on the 4th; Sherry Albertson on the 6th;, June Schait on the 7th; and Bill Metz on the 8th.

A very happy anniversary to Kevin and Julie Elak on the 6th.

The Teeny Awards for achievement in high school theater will be announced Sunday, June 6, at Riverhead High School. The red carpet walk starts at 2 p.m. and the ceremony runs 3-5 p.m. For the first time, the public is invited. Come and support the nominees from Southold: Ivy Croteau (lead actress in a musical, “Oliver”), Kaitlyn Daddona (lead actress in a comedy, “Love is Contagious”) and Jacob Boergesson and Stephen D’Amico (both up for lead actor in a comedy, “Love is Contagious”). Tickets can be purchased for $20 at the East Ends Arts Council in Riverhead or online at eastendarts.org. All proceeds benefit the Teeny Awards.

Carolyn and Ralph Sinopoli enjoyed a visit with their new grandson, Thomas Edward, who was born April 13 to their daughter, Leslie, and her husband, Christopher Migneault, of Somerset, Mass. Also thrilled with Thomas’ arrival are his paternal grandfather, Edward Migneault, and his aunt Stephanie Sinopoli.

Friends are invited to gather on the lawn of St. Patrick R.C. Church this Sunday, June 6, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. to wish the Rev. George Michell best wishes on his retirement. Refreshments will be served. Father Peter Garry will be the new pastor at St. Patrick.

My husband brought home a real treat the other day: Strawberries! Just in time, since we are on the last jar of jam that my mom and my daughter made last year. After a stressful day, strawberry picking is good for the soul. Give it a try.
