Alfred C. Falkowski

Alfred C. Falkowski of Southold died at his home on Friday, May 28, 2010. He was 84 years old.

He was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 15, 1926, to Kazimer and Stefania (nà e Przonak) Falkowski. A Navy veteran, he served in the Philippines during World War II and received the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, European Theatre Medal, Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

He married Grace McGovern on Aug. 19, 1948, and for 39 years he worked at Grumman in Calverton as an aircraft painter. He was a communicant of St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold.

Predeceased by his wife, Grace, and his sister, Millie, he is survived by his children, Pamela DeFriest of Riverhead, Al Falkowski of Celebration, Fla., Ron Falkowski and Roy Falkowski, both of Southold; six grandchildren, Steve DeFriest, Renee Harvey, Tanya Aquino and Jeff, Richard and Nicholas Falkowski; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Paige Harvey.

The family welcomed friends on Friday, June 4, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where religious services were held that afternoon by Father George Michell. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, June 5, at St. Patrick R.C. Church by Father Michell. Interment, with U.S. Navy Honors, was at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
