Graduation ceremonies set
North Fork high schools will graduate their 2010 seniors at various times and places this weekend. Greenport High School’s Class of 2010 will graduate Sunday, June 27, at 1 p.m. at Greenport High School. Mattituck’s ceremony will take place Saturday, June 26, at 10 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. Southold’s graduation will be held at the Southold Junior-Senior High School auditorium on Saturday, June 26, at 1 p.m.

Gay pride service planned
Gay pride will be celebrated at First Universalist Church of Southold during the Sunday, June 27, worship service, which starts at 10:30 a.m. Members of the congregation will present historical accounts of this celebration, with special music under the direction of pianist Charlotte Day.

Community garden gets growing in Greenport
Join neighbors of all ages to create a community garden on grounds adjacent to Greenport Fire Station, South Street between Third Street and Fourth Avenue. The introductory session of this long-term seasonal project will take place Friday, June 25, starting at 5:30 p.m. and continuing into the evening. For more information call David Bauer at 848-3913.

Beach cleanup is planned
The Orient-East Marion Park District is hosting a beach cleanup on Monday, June 28, at 5 p.m. Assemble at Truman’s Beach and bring any rakes, hoes, etc., you have. Gloves, bags, snacks and water will be provided. Rain date is Tuesday, June 29.

Offshore drilling protest
Hands Across the Sand, a worldwide gathering of people opposed to offshore oil drilling in U.S. waters, will sponsor two protests on Saturday, June 26, one at 11 a.m. at Fifth Street beach in Greenport and one at 11:30 a.m. in Southold at the end of South Harbor Road.

Sailor Kids need boats
North Fork Women’s Resource Center is asking for donations of boats for its underprivileged children’s sailing and boating programs as well as appliances, bikes, furniture, cars, trucks for its thrift shop.

Weiczoreks to be honored at San Simeon fundraiser
San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing, Rehabilitation and Adult Day Health Care will honor board president Robert Wieczorek and Dr. Rita Wieczorek at its Cocktails by the Bay fundraiser at the Shelter Island Yacht Club Sunday, Aug. 1.
The event will also honor members of San Simeon’s honorary board and the parishioners of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Tickets for the cocktail reception, which will feature live calypso music and a silent auction, can be purchased from development director Emily Clark at 477-2110, ext. 252.

Get fit with hula-hoops
Southold Town Recreation Department is offering a hula-hooping for fitness program Saturdays, July 10 through August 24, from 9-10:15 a.m. at various beaches around town. The cost is $27 per person and hula hoops can be obtained from the instructor for $25. A town parking permit is required. For more info, call the recreation department at 765-5182.

Become a day care provider
Little Flower Day Care Network is offering continuous recruitment for those interested in becoming registered New York State child day care providers. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
