Prom season is upon us. One can see a telltale sign at Chaps Corner, where there are racks and racks of tuxedo rentals. You may have wondered what all the hubbub was about if you drove by Mattituck High School last Friday night, where beautiful young ladies and handsome young men gathered on the front lawn to have their pictures taken by family and friends. Thanks to the PTSA’s effort and generosity, the groups were sent off in style with a welcoming reception. Onlookers oohed and ahhed as the young people were individually announced and walked down the red carpet before boarding the coaches waiting to transport them to East Wind.

While picking up Brad’s tux, I had an opportunity to catch up with Debbie and Bill Gildersleeve. As you may know, their daughter Taylor was crowned Miss New York Teen USA 2009. She’s been a cast member on ABC’s “One Life to Live” and has appeared in numerous commercials and other acting engagements.

Taylor just completed her freshman year at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, recently shot a TV pilot, filmed an episode of “30 Rock,” booked a recurring role on the ABC soap and will play one of the leads in the teen.com web series “Haute and Bothered.” She also plans to train diligently for this summer’s Miss Teen USA competition. One might wonder how Taylor balances her schooling and acting career. Her website credits everything to her supportive family: “I would be nowhere without them,” Taylor beams. “I love them more than anything and am forever grateful and blessed.”
