The roof of the gazebo at Silversmith’s Corner shows signs of neglect.

With missing shingles on the roof and skateboard scrapes on the interior, the gazebo at Silversmith’s Corner park in Southold looks a little worse for wear this summer. But Southold Town director of public works Jim McMahon said that the structure across from IGA on Route 25 will get a makeover next year, when the town has the money to do it.

“Skateboarders use the gazebo to jump up and do their tricks, which can be a problem,” Mr. McMahon said. “But we do have repairs to the gazebo included in the 2011 budget.”

The park, which the town has owned for 15 years, will get spruced up for this summer’s weekly Concerts on the Green series, which begin on June 30 and will continue every Wednesday through August 25. Mr. McMahon said that town workers have been busy this spring working on the fields of Cochran Park in Peconic for the Relay for Life and summer sporting events,

“But there’s not a spot in Southold where we spend more time,” Mr. McMahon said of Silversmith’s.
