On one of the steamier nights of the summer, members of the SHS Class of 1980 gathered at the beautiful Roanoke Vineyards in Riverhead for their 30-year reunion. Owner Rich Pisacano, a member of the class, offered the use of this great location for the event. Those who attended were: Rich Anderson, Jill Berry, Judi Boergesson, Susan Busch, Bill Byrnes, Lauren Cassidy, John Czartosieski, Molly Cusumano, Renee DeLong, Rich Feeley, E.J. Flynn, Heather Hardy, Bill Helinski, Joe Kenneally, Charlie Hoffmeister, Debra Liso, Anne McElroy, Eva McConnell, Mike McGlynn, Rich Mullen, Bill Quirk, Bob Scalia, Susan Schroeder, Kerry Sisino, Beth Winters and Kim Witherspoon. Some of the members of this class were also on the SHS varsity soccer team that won both the Suffolk County and New York State Class “C” Championships in 1979.

Brian Cummings and his dad, Keith, have recently taken their musical talents to local restaurants and wineries. We stopped by Corey Creek Vineyards last Tuesday to hear them play at the “Twilight Tuesdays” event. They’ll be performing there again on Aug. 10.

Peggy Murphy is the proud first-time great-grandmother of Jack Robert, born July 20 to Lauren (Norkus) and Eric Trichon of Ithaca. Jack’s maternal grandparents, Kathy (Dow) and Greg Norkus, spent their early years in Southold and Lauren and her siblings are frequent visitors. I’m sure little Jack won’t need a reservation to come and visit his Southold family either!

Happy birthday to Erin Cassidy (she turns 20) and North Fork Ospreys coach Shawn Epidendio (he’s 29) today, July 29. Elise Calabrese celebrates on the 30th, along with my twin nephews Alex and Justin Elak, who each blow out three candles. Ann Wassmer and Charlie Turner have birthdays on the 31st and Jeff Goubeaud on Aug. 3.

In the 33 years they’ve been married, Dave and Marilyn Daly have never missed each other’s birthdays. They were both born on Aug. 2, but Dave reached a milestone last year, and Marilyn reaches hers this year. Happy birthday to the both of them!

A very happy anniversary to Ray and Joan Mathie, who toasted 38 years together on July 24, and to Rusty and Donna Ackroyd on Aug. 2.

Award-winning saxophonist Shenole Latimer will join with the lush piano playing of Al Quinn for a classical-jazz duet at Southold Free Library on Friday, July 30, from 7-8 p.m. Admission is free.

Southold resident Vivian Eyre’s poem “Summer Letter” will be published in the August edition of the international literary journal, Permafrost.

It’s been a great season for the North Fork Ospreys. With the support of the community, they’ll be back again next summer for more family-friendly collegiate baseball action. Consider purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket for $100 by calling 765-3107. The drawing will be held this weekend.
