James W. Suydam Jr.

James W. Suydam Jr. of Shelter Island died July 14 at his home. The longtime manager and bartender at O’Mally’s restaurants was 83.
Born Nov. 6, 1926, in Philadelphia, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He later enjoyed a long career in advertising with worldwide agency Ted Bates Inc., during which he lived for many years in Japan.
Prior to his work at O’Mally’s Amagansett, Water Mill, Hampton Bays and Southold locations, he had also owned and operated Suydam’s in New York City. In his free time, he enjoyed boating and fishing.
Arrangements were handled by Shelter Island Funeral Home. Cremation was private, with interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
