Discussion of faith and prayer
Sacred Heart Parish will present three evenings of discussion sparked by the question, “With six billion people on the face of this earth, why should God be concerned about little ol’ me?”
Focused on faith and prayer, the sessions will take place July 11, 12 and 13 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Main Road at Reeve Avenue, Mattituck. Father Joseph W. Staudt will be the presenter, and the evenings will be open to all.
Talk to town officials
In an effort to enhance civic participation in town matters, Supervisor Scott Russell and the Town Board will hold a series of hamlet community meetings to discuss local concerns. The next Southold meeting will take place Thursday, July 15, at 7 p.m. in the community room of Southold Free Library. Agenda items will include the “Southold 2020” comprehensive plan, and legislation enacted to promote the creation of accessory apartments. Questions from the public will be taken.
For safer summer boating
The Peconic Bay Power Squadron and Mattituck Fire Department are offering a New York State safe boating course for young people 10 to 18. The course will meet July 12-16, 4 to 6 p.m. each day, at the Raymond Cleaves American Legion Post on Wickham Avenue in Mattituck.
Parents can register their children on the first day of class, July 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Class is limited to 30 students and a small materials fee will be collected. Students must complete all classes to be certified. Call 298-4793 for more information.
‘Music Idol’ auditions set for ‘Rockin’ on the River’
There are several spots left for performers in ‘Rockin’ on the River,’ a free “Music Idol” family event planned for Saturday, Aug. 7, on the Peconic Riverfront in Riverhead. Auditions are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Atlantis Marine World. All ages are welcome.

Beach services scheduled
North Fork Reform Synagogue’s summer Friday night services will be celebrated at Kenney’s Beach in Southold on July 9 and 23, August 6 and 20 at around 7:30 p.m. following a picnic supper. Become a day care provider
Little Flower Day Care Network is offering continuous recruitment for those interested in becoming registered New York State child day care providers. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
To arrange an appointment for orientation and instruction on how to apply for state registration, call 631-929-6200, ext. 1239, and a social worker will visit your home.
Sailor Kids need boats
North Fork Women’s Resource Center is asking for donations of boats for its underprivileged children’s sailing and boating programs as well as appliances, bikes, furniture, cars, trucks for its thrift shop.

New hours for CAST programs
Various programs of Community Action of Southold Town have new hours, as follows:
Food distribution takes place Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m.-noon and 5-7 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m.-noon. Donations are accepted Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon.
A storytelling program for children takes place Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
Feed-a-Kid summer program
CAST’s annual Feed-a-Kid program began with the closing of local schools. Families who have not yet registered their children to receive breakfast and lunch foods for their children can call CAST at 477-1717. The program operates Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to noon. Financial contribution to support the program can be mailed to CAST, P.O. Box 159, Greenport, NY 11944.
Junior Bulldogs celebrate
The Junior Bulldogs of the Mattituck Fire Department will celebrate their 25th anniversary at a party scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 7. Times/Review Newspapers are looking for pictures and information on ecologically friendly gardens and community gardens to be featured in next spring’s Home and Garden supplement.
We want to hear from you if you are using goods made from recycled materials, ecologically harvested timber and other earth-friendly ingredients; if your garden is filled with environmentally friendly garden supplies, accents and accessories; if you are growing an edible organic garden; if there is a habitat for wildlife; or any other ecofriendly gardening highlights. Information and photos are also sought on community gardens.

Joint services to be held
Two local congregations are planning to celebrate summer with joint worship services. These will be held at Old Steeple Church, Main Road, Aquebogue, July 18 and Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. and at First Parish Church, 5267 Sound Avenue, Riverhead, July 25 and Aug. 15 at 10:30 a.m.
Learn about labyrinths
The history, design and uses of labyrinths will be the subject of a workshop for beginners led by Lisa Barrow, of Sacred Spaces. The session will take place Saturday, July 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Spiritual Renewal Center of First Parish Church, UCC. The rain date is Saturday, July 24.
