Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime … a warm breeze, a refreshing glass of lemonade under the shade of your favorite tree, kicking back and relaxing as you watch the clouds roll by. For the Girl Scouts of junior Troop No. 3728 summertime activities are under way. Leader Janique Nine arranged for the Suffolk County Girl Scouts of Unit 60 to present the color guard at a Long Island Ducks game. Among those who participated were Meghan Riley, who held the American flag; Teagan Nine, holding the Girl Scout flag; Ashley Burns; Cassidy Mullen; Sophia Borzilleri; Elizabeth Borzilleri, who held the Brownie flag; Hannah Murphy; and McKenzie Murphy.

Congratulations to Ken Robbins, who earned first-place overall and broke the course record by almost two minutes in the Dirty Events Sprint Adventure Race on June 28. The race involves a one-mile trail run, two miles of kayaking or canoeing with a 100-yard portage, and a 12-mile mountain bike course, special challenges and a final three-mile run at the Schiff Scout Camp. North Fork Lacrosse coaches decided to kick off the summer season by giving members of the Mattituck JV team “a run for their money.” Practice makes perfect, so the coaches got together for a couple of practices to get their plays down beforehand. Good thing, too, because the coaches won by two points — giving them good reason to experience some aches and pains the next day.

Sydney Slotkin enjoyed both her work and her colleagues while serving as a finance intern for a political action committee called Progress Network USA. The group is based on the ideals of Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Last week, Sydney attended the Congressional baseball game, where Tim Bishop played third base. The internship is over now, and Sydney is back home on the North Fork — but not for long. She departs next week for Costa Rica to study for the semester. All the best!

Welcome the Sabbath in song, prayer and meditation while watching the sun set over the waters of Long Island Sound.
