Douglas R. McCallion

Douglas Robert McCallion of Cutchogue and Massachusetts died July 9 at the age of 67.

He was born Nov. 5, 1942, in New York City to Harry and Edna McCallion. He was raised in Pelham, N.Y., where he became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Pelham High School in 1960. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1965 and served with a military intelligence unit in the U.S. Army, including a tour of duty in South Korea.

He was a member of the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center and The Bridge of Central Massachusetts program.

According to his family, Mr. McCallion was “a huge fan of early rock-n-roll,” with “an extensive record collection dating back to the 1950s and could sing practically any popular song from that era … in his rich baritone voice.” He also enjoyed taking long walks around Gardner, Mass. “Unfailingly kind and generous of spirit,” family members said,” … he was devoted to his large family and friends and will be sorely missed.”

Mr. McCallion is survived by his former wife, Lee Chalmers McCallion of South Grafton, Mass.; his mother, of Pelham Manor, N.Y., and Cutchogue; his daughter, Maureen Cohen of Grafton; his brothers, Kenneth, Donald and Peter; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, July 17, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
