Greenport

While I’ll never complain about the heat (I remember all too well those cold days of winter), I sure do wish we could get a break from all this humidity. It would definitely make the days a lot more enjoyable.

Joann Tamin asked me to let everyone know that this year’s Cut-A-Thon has been canceled. What she didn’t ask me to say, but I’m doing it anyhow, is that through Joann’s effort, the Cut-A-Thon raised over $40,000 over 10 years’ time, which was split between the North Fork Animal Welfare League and S.A.V.E.S. She deserves a standing ovation for that! Thank you, Joann.

Greenport High School now has not one, not two, but six girls who are classified as Elite All-American cheerleaders. Congratulations to Callie Bubb, Payge Corazzini, Emily King, Kaitlin McElroy, Alexis Reed and Holly Sponza. To say that I am extremely proud to be their coach is an understatement. Way to go, girls!

RuthAnn and P.J. Corazzini have so much to be proud of this week. They and their daughters Payge and Blayr attended the national baton twirling championships in Savannah, Ga. last week. Payge qualified ninth in the nation individually. That’s not all. The Clarkette Parade Corps to which she belongs won the national title and another of the teams she’s on, the Clarkette Senior large twirl team, won the chance to represent the United States at the international championship.

Not to be outdone by her big sister, Blayr and her team, the East End Cats, won the New York State, Northeast Regional and USA national championships! In their quest for the national title, the girls on Blayr’s team had a no-drop routine, which RuthAnn tells me is very rare in the twirling world. Congratulations to both girls on a fantastic job!
