Mattituck-Laurel

With the last week of August upon us, everyone is preparing for the new school year. The many volunteers of the PTSA never seem to take a break when it comes time to help make our students’ lives better. This year at the start of school the PTSA will sponsor a Yankee Candle sale. Order forms and catalogs will be available at all open school nights so watch for your chance to help our students earn funds to support upcoming events. Open school nights are also a time when you can join the PTSA. Even if you don’t have a lot of time, the PTSA will find a way for you to help.

Congratulations to Steven Jacobs, Mattituck High School Class of 2009, who has graduated from WyoTech in Blairsville, Pa., with a diploma in automotive and upholstery technology. He works full time at Willow Hill Automotive in Southold.

Happy retirement wishes to Rose Skuro, who recently retired from the Suffolk County Treasurer’s office. Rose was honored by friends and co-workers, including good friends Edna Schaedel and her daughter Joann, at a dinner at East Wind. Rose dedicated many years to her job and looks forward to spending her time volunteering for local causes and organizations. Congratulations!

Dot Strong is always proud of her family, but when she called this week to tell me about her grandson Ryan’s wedding, you could hear the joy through the phone lines. Best wishes to Ryan Strong on his marriage to Tiffany Quinn. The couple exchanged vows at Flowerfield in St. James on Aug. 22. Ryan’s parents are Re and Jeffery Strong; Tiffany is the daughter of Bernard and Eileen Quinn. Ryan’s best man was lifelong friend Matthew Wilsberg. Katie Thomas was maid of honor. The couple will honeymoon in Tahiti. May your life together be full of love and laughter.
