Bertha Stars

Bertha Stars of Mattituck died Aug. 14 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 82.

She was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Mattituck to Joseph and Victoria (Dembrowski) Zimnoski. She graduated from Mattituck High School in 1945, and on July 30, 1955, she married William Stars in Mattituck.

Ms. Stars was vice president of Southold Savings, which later became North Fork Bank, in Southold. She was a Golfette at Island’s End Golf and Country Club in Greenport and served as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck.

According to her family, she enjoyed reading, golfing, walking the beach and gardening.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings Frances McNair, Helen Doscinski, Jean Weitsman, Ann Thomas, Laura Harris, Stanley, Joseph, John and Edward Zimnoski.

Ms. Stars is survived by her husband, of Mattituck; son, Anthony Rutkowski (Kathy) of Mattituck and daughter, Karen Clark (Henry) of Greenport; grandchildren Wendi Hawkins, Eric Clark, and Elizabeth and Anthony Rutkowski; and great-grandchildren Regan and Nicholas Hawkins and Ethan Clark.

Family received visitors Aug. 17 at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Funeral services were held Aug. 18 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment followed at East Marion Cemetery.
