The East Marion Community Association is planning an Oct. 9 reunion of all former students of the East Marion School. This Saturday’s OHS kids workshop is titled COLOR MAGIC! Children ages 7 to 12 will discover how clothing was colored in the past by using organic vegetable dyes to tie-dye a shirt. Please bring a white cotton T-shirt. The time is 10 a.m. to noon and the cost is $2. Parents are welcome. Call 323-2480 to reserve or get more details.

Mother Nature sure provided a spectacular evening Saturday for the OHS annual benefit. Thanks to Derrick and Donna Cephas for the idyllic setting and to everyone who donated/attended and supported the event.

‘Bird lady’ Maureen Sanders is joining our own little osprey blog by sharing a moment from a decade ago. She was accessing the causeway from East Marion when an osprey dropped its catch in front of her and started to dive to retrieve it. Although Maureen said she didn’t wait around to witness the recovery, she said it looked like it was about to happen. Based on the column dialogue, she’s been doing research and found that ospreys will also eat snakes, lizards, frogs and even small rodents. So my next question is: Do the rodents have snorkels or do the osprey hunt on the land? NEXT?

Welcome to the newest ‘decade clubber-to-be’ — since 10 years from now anyone born in 2010 will change their decade also. Tanner Young Wills came into our world July 19 at Southampton Hospital weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measuring 21 3/4 inches. Parents Jay Dee and Brian Wills are thrilled, as is 3-year-old big brother Cayden. The growing family is settling in their East Marion home off Shipyard Lane. Congratulations all around.
