Three crashes leave one dead, seven sent to hospital

A 24-year-old Jamesport man was killed Saturday after he lost control of his car and swerved into oncoming traffic, Southold Town Police said.
The crash was one of three in Southold that sent a total of seven people to the hospital Saturday.
Police said Austin Comando was headed east on Main Road in Southold shortly before 6 p.m. when his 1993 Toyota Camry swerved into the westbound lane and struck a vehicle being driven by Francisco Franco, 51, of Greenport. Mr. Comando was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. Franco was transported to Stony Brook Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Less than two hours later, two Mattituck men were also airlifted to Stony Brook after one of them struck a tree on Grand Avenue.
William Breimer, 17, of Raccoon Road was stuck and had to be removed from the vehicle by Mattituck Heavy Rescue. Mr. Breimer was the passenger in the vehicle being driven by Jason Rohrbach, 24, of Grand Avenue.
A teen from Peconic was previously airlifted to Stony Brook after a crash involving four teens that occurred at 1 a.m. Saturday.
Southold Police said an unknown rear passenger caused a vehicle to flip twice after reaching over to play with the radio and distracting the driver. The car was overturned after swerving into the eastbound lane on County Road 48 in Cutchogue.
Abigail Heins, 17, was airlifted, while the other three occupants of the vehicle were treated at a local hospital.
