West Nile virus found in Southold

The West Nile virus has been found in mosquitoes collected in Southold at the end of July, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services reported on Friday.
In all 38 mosquito samples collected in various Suffolk locations between July 27 and July 29 tested positive for the virus.  No human case of West Nile have yet been confirmed in Suffolk.
Most people infected with West Nile will show mild or no symptoms. More serious cases can include high fever, headache, disorientation, convulsions, vision loss and paralysis.
People over 50 and those with compromised immune systems are most at risk and are advised to take steps to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.
