WORTH NOTING Double your pleasure

Two celebrations converge on the Cutchogue Village Green next Saturday, Aug. 14, when the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Society cuts its 50th birthday cake just before the 31st annual Douglas Moore Memorial Concert.

The public is invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and a pre-concert picnic supper to the green starting at 5 p.m. Prizes will be given for the most whimsical, elegant and traditional spreads. A raffle drawing will also take place. At 7 p.m., the Historical Council’s birthday will be acknowledged with a proclamation, the singing of “Happy Birthday” and cake for everyone.

The concert, honoring the musical legacy of Cutchogue native Douglas Moore, begins at 7:30. Dorothy Savitch will lead the Sound Symphony in a program including popular classics, compositions by Mr. Moore and “The Four Corners,” a piece for string quartet composed by New Suffolk resident George Cork Maul.

Admission is free, although a collection will be taken to help cover costs. In the event of rain, the picnic will be canceled and the concert will move to the Southold High School auditorium. For more information call 631-734-6507
