Mary Byron

Mary P. Byron of Cutchogue died Aug. 23 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 88.

She was born June 4, 1922, in Dumont, N.J., to Harry and Mary (Callahan) Horan. She was raised in New Jersey and graduated from St. Cecilia’s High School.

On Sept. 22, 1945, she married Lawrence D. Byron in Hackensack, N.J. A former resident of Garden City, Ms. Byron lived in Cutchogue for 25 years. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Cutchogue.

Mary was a loving wife and a wonderful mother. She will be missed, but the many memories she created for her family will be cherished forever. Her humor, grace and strength were an inspiration.

Predeceased by her husband, in 1988, and sisters, Lenora Steinke and Anne Peterson, she is survived by her daughters, Patricia Lund (Bob), Laura Brinkmann (Keith), Mary Moylan (Timothy), Tara Williams (Dennis) and Kerry Fitzgerald (Brian); 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Family received visitors Aug. 24 at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Funeral services were held Aug. 25 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hackensack, N.J.
