Park districts OK budgets

Voters in two park districts — Mattituck and Southold — approved 2011 budget requests in the past week.

Mattituck taxpayers gave their district’s $566,860 budget proposal resounding approval, 79 to 11, on Thursday. In Southold, it was a unanimous but low-turnout vote Monday night, 5-0, for that district’s $315,000 spending plan.

Mattituck voters will see a drop in their park tax rate from slightly more than $18 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. Southold voters are expected to see their tax rate remain the same because the new budget calls for no more spending than the present budget.
