61 students achieve AP scholar status

Thirty-nine Mattituck High School students, 18 Southold students and four Greenporters have achieved Advanced Placement Scholar status based on their exam scores.

Through the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program, high school students can take AP college-level courses. Many four-year colleges in the United States provide college credit or advanced placement to students who successfully score a 3 or above, based on a scale of 1 to 5.

Only about 18 percent of the more than 1.8 million students worldwide who took AP classes earned “scholar” distinction. The award is given to those who score a 3 or higher in at least three classes.
