Elizabeth V. Petrowski

Elizabeth Virginia Petrowski of Mattituck died Sept. 12, 2010, at New York University Hospital in New York City. She was 62 years old.

She was born on March 22, 1948, in Port Jefferson to Virginia (Hagelman) and John Galgano.

A graduate of Adelphi University, she had been an elementary school teacher with the Middle Country School District for 30 years.

A North Fork resident since 1974, she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish and a member of Mattituck Lions Club where she was a Lioness.

Ms. Petrowski was predeceased in 1991 by her husband, Peter, whom she married on June 7, 1970, in Selden. She was the loving mother of Richard Petrowski and Karen Flint, both of Mattituck; sister of Robert, of Ronkonkoma and Lawrence, of Selden; wonderful grandmother of Emma, Jeremy, Lucas and Nathaniel; mother-in-law of Derek Flint and Heather (Lomaga) Petrowski; and partner and companion of Jerry Crampe.

Visiting hours continue today, Thursday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck by Father Joseph Staudt, with assistance from the Ministry of Consolation. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association Inc. (AARDA).

She will be dearly missed.
