Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library budget approved

Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library patrons gave a thumbs up Tuesday night to a 2011 budget which increases spending by 1.86 percent.
Taxpayers in Cutchogue acted on a request for $1.19 million while those in New Suffolk approved spending $166,492 to support the library. The results show 127 yes votes were cast among Cutchogue taxpayers to just 39 no votes, and in New Suffolk 26 yes votes were cast to 6 no votes.
Approval results in a tax increase of $6.25 for a Cutchogue homeowner with a $5,000 property assessment, bringing the cost to $352.29. New Suffolk residents will pay an additional $8.40 for a total of $352.333.
The balance of the library’s 2011 budget will come from state aid, interest from operating accounts, copier and fax fees, fines and $11,000 from the library’s fund balance.
