Nancy and Bob Pettit celebrated 60 years of marriage on Aug. 19.

I passed a few weddings taking place at local venues last weekend and I marveled at the perfect weather for such an occasion. Whatever your event, or if you simply enjoyed life in your own backyard, the setting couldn’t have been better.

The Rev. Peter Garry, newly appointed pastor of St. Patrick Church, will hold an outdoor Mass at Kenney’s Beach this Sunday, Sept. 5, at 8 a.m. All are welcome. Bring a blanket or chair. Those wishing to attend the 8 a.m. Mass at the church may still do so.

The Southold Homemakers will resume weekly meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Town Recreation Center in Peconic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring a sandwich and your own cup. Coffee and tea will be served.

Very special belated anniversary wishes to Ed and Doris Skrezec, who toasted 50 years of marriage on Aug. 27.

Another belated anniversary wish for Nancy and Bob Pettit of Southold, who met July 14, 1945, and were married on Aug. 19, 1950. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a dinner party at their home. Eighteen family members attended, including four children and eight grandchildren.

Happy birthday to Laura Pace, who celebrates today, Sept. 2. Rachel Terry’s co-workers at Van Duzer Gas wish her a happy 26th birthday on Sept. 4. Rose Berryman also has her special day on the 4th, and both Brooke Bohn and Harry Fishman celebrate on the 6th.

Southold author Don Bayles will be on hand to sign copies of his book, “Horton Point Lighthouse and Nautical Museum,” at the lighthouse on Sept. 4 and 5, 1:30-4 p.m. The book is a thorough history of the lighthouse and its keepers through the years.

Our Lady of Mercy Regional School in Cutchogue is still accepting registration for its nursery 3-year-old, pre-K 4-year-old program and kindergarten programs. Call 734-5166 or e-mail [email protected] for a registration packet.

The Peconic Bay Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. New members of all skill levels are invited to join the first meeting of the season on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Southold Presbyterian Church. Contact Doris Bayles at 765-8071 for more information.

Enjoy a delicious steak dinner expertly prepared by the members of Southold Fire Department’s Hook and Ladder Company this Saturday evening, Sept. 4, from 6-9 p.m. The donation is $30. The trip raffle will also be held that evening.

I’ll be working on next week’s column this evening so contact me ASAP with your news. Have a great weekend.
