Aldo Jahier

Aldo Jahier of Jefferson’s Ferry, formerly of Mattituck and Huntington, died Sept. 25 at Good Shepherd Hospice, Port Jefferson, after a recent illness. He was 87.

Al was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Jamaica, N.Y., and moved to Huntington as a youth. He graduated from Huntington High School, where he met his future wife of 67 years, Ruth Burns. Al enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served his country for 4 1/2 years as a B-17 bomber pilot, test pilot and instructor.

After the war, Al, his brother, Louis, and their father founded Chairmasters Inc., based in New York City, a successful business manufacturing hotel and restaurant furniture nationwide and throughout the world.

Al is survived by his wife and best friend, Ruth; their daughter, Sandra, and sons, Jeffrey and Randall; six grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Those of you who knew Al well will honor and support his decision not to have calling hours or a public funeral service. Al will be interred at Calverton National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Good Shepherd Hospice, Inpatient Center, 245 Old Country Road, Melville, NY 11747.

Arrangements are being handled by DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.
