Carmela Trupia

Carmela Trupia of Mattituck died at her home on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010. She was 100 years old.

She was born in Italy on May 8, 1910, to Louis and Concetta Cacciato, and came to the United States as a young girl.

For many years, she worked as a dressmaker in New York City and was a longtime resident of Jackson Heights, Queens, before moving to the North Fork 10 years ago.

Family members spoke of her love of family, friends, children and babies and her long, wonderful life. She enjoyed cooking, eating good food, flowers and her garden. Decorating the home and entertaining during the holidays were also favorite activities.

Predeceased by her husband, Samuel, she leaves her children, Maria, of Mattituck, Tina, of Florida, and Joseph, of Jackson Heights; two brothers, Richard Cacciato of California and Charles Hunter of New Mexico; a granddaughter, Christina Fallon Trupia, and a grandson, Joseph Trupia Jr. She was also predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Geraldine Trupia.

The family will receive friends today, Thursday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Interment will follow at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing, Queens.
