Levy unveils proposed 2011 budget

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy unveiled a $2.7 billion budget
Thursday that he says would freeze county taxes for a seventh
consecutive year.
Mr. Levy praised the proposed spending plan
Thursday, saying it comes in $67 million under the amount allowed by the
county spending cap.
The budget also calls for the hiring of 220
new police officers, 17 deputy sheriffs and 140 corrections officers
mandated to be hired by New York State. The police officers will be
hired before next Fall, he said.
The budget projects sales tax growth of more than 4 percent next year, Mr. Levy said.
