Ruth D. Eyrich

Ruth D. Eyrich of Southold died Sept. 2 at San Simeon by the Sound Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenport. She was 86.

She was born March 7, 1924, to Alfred and Georgiana (Viemeister) Thompsen in Brooklyn, where she was raised and graduated from high school.

On July 18, 1942, she married Philip Eyrich in Brooklyn.

Ms. Eyrich was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport, where she sang in the choir, and was part of the craft group, WELCA and the Care Committee. She also sang with the Crestwood Chorus in Whiting, N.J., for many years.

According to her family, she enjoyed singing, being a homemaker and working at crafts such as quilting, knitting and crocheting.

Ms. Eyrich is survived by her husband; children Rondi Petersen of Beaumont, Texas, Phyllis Johnson of Southold, Dennis, of Woodstock, Ga., Douglas, of Marietta, Ga., and Robert, of Coconut Creek, Fla.; a brother, Warren Thompsen of Flanders; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 7 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Garret Johnson. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Arrangements were handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
