It’s homecoming happiness for Porters

GARRET MEADE PHOTO After one of his two touchdown catches, Tremayne Hansen, left, was congratulated by Yianni Rauseo.

It was supposed to be a close game.

Both high school football teams entered Friday night’s game with identical 2-2 records and the exact same power rating, to one-thousandth of a point, in Suffolk County Division IV. The Greenport/Southold/Mattituck/Shelter Island Porters were in seventh place, and the Center Moriches Red Devils were in eighth. All signs pointed to a tight battle.

The only thing was, apparently no one told the Porters that.

In a result that was stunning — not because of who won and who lost so much as the margin of victory — the Porters blasted Center Moriches, 39-8. Mike Mangiamele threw a pair of touchdown passes to Tremayne Hansen and ran for two other touchdowns himself for the Porters, who were pumped up by a homecoming night crowd at Greenport High School’s Dorrie Jackson Memorial Field.
