Oysterponds: Oysterponds Historical Society art exhibit and sale this weekend

OHS will hold an art exhibit and sale this weekend with a preview from 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow (for members) and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and on Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This Saturday night’s piano party from 5 to 7 p.m. at Poquatuck Hall will feature Louise Pecoraro, Lea Kendall, Don Boerum, John Contiguglia and others and will show off the baby grand piano that was purchased recently through the yeoman’s effort of Jane Smith. Hopefully Jane will also share her talent on the keyboard. This is a free event but there will be a donation jar for the piano fund.
Don’t forget Saturday’s East Marion School Reunion. Please contact [email protected]
Speaking of East Marion, last week I mistakenly referred to the East Marion/Orient Homemakers as the Oysterponds Craft Guild. Mea culpa and apologies.
Marie Pemberton Haeg is one proud mom, sharing news that daughter Lisa Woffinden was promoted to lieutenant colonel on Friday at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. Of course, Grandma and Grandpa Jessie and Hector Pemberton are also glowing with pride. Congratulations all around and thanks from us all for your service to our country.
Mark your calendar for a fun Halloween event on Oct. 30. OCA will host a Halloween party at Poquatuck Hall from 3 to 6 p.m. for children of all ages (that means adults, too!) from Orient and East Marion. There will be prizes for pumpkin carving/decorating. Please bring a pumpkin ready for carving (i.e., gut it at home) and to protect fingers of little ones there will be paint to decorate them. There will also be hayrides, crafts, face-painting and refreshments. The event is free but donations to the new-floor fund will be gratefully accepted. For info, call Priscilla Bull at 323-2720.
After hearing of Priscilla Bull’s small world this week, I’ve decided Emily Halligan must be the most known person on the North Fork. When Priscilla e-mailed Kathy Caffery about the upcoming Halloween party, she transposed two letters in the address and the message ended up in the inbox of a man in New Mexico. The message mentioned Bridgehampton and the man replied saying he’d be unable to attend the festivities and perhaps she’d would like the intended person to get the information. He then said he’s visited the East End (thinking Priscilla was on the South Fork because of the Bridgehampton reference) and his wife (Kim? Kathy?) was from Huntington. After Priscilla replied that she was from Orient, he asked if she knew May Watson or Emily Halligan, who is a good family friend. Well, Emily, your global network strikes again. Cactus Jack Caffrey (not Caffery) from Santa Fe sends his best.
It was mentioned that Jane Murray (Father Tom’s mom) has a birthday this week and we all were tickled that it will be on 10/10/10. So I perused Facebook and my other sources to see who else was celebrating on the 10th and no one popped up. But it did reveal a person who’ll have a birthday a week later — none other than Emily Halligan!! Happy day to you both.
