No decision on Greenport tennis court

Despite pressure from tennis players for a quick response, it will likely be mid-December before the Greenport Board of Education renders a decision on use of the the campus outdoor sports facilities by local residents during the school day.
Board members agreed Wednesday night to consider the interests of the 150 people who signed petitions asking that the facilities — tennis courts, ball fields and track — be open to residents. But they also must balance those interests with those of some parents and teachers who have asked the board to enforce a policy prohibiting such use during school hours.
Superintendent Michael Comanda will also check with the New York State Insurance Reciprocal to determine whether such public use during the day would affect the policy, said board president Tina Volinski.
