LeRoy T. Foster

Leroy Foster

Former Greenport resident LeRoy T. Foster died Nov. 6 in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He was 86.

He was born July 8, 1924, in Greenport. He worked as a lineman for the Long Island Lighting Company until retiring in 1978. He moved to Florida a year later.

Mr. Foster served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded during the Battle of Anzio. He had been commander of American Legion Post 185 in Greenport and belonged to American Legion Post 318 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Post 2568, both in Port St. Lucie.

Predeceased by his wife, Kathleen, whom he married in 1948, and his son, LeRoy II, he is survived by his children Kathy Schuhmann of Myrtle Beach, S.C., John, of Cocoa, Fla., Sally Borodemos and Jerry, both of Port St. Lucie; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
