Lobster Roll Northside was created by Frederick Terry Sr. in 1999 on the site of the former Zdunko farmhouse on Sound Avenue, across the street from the original Terry homestead. It is a slightly more upscale version of the famed Hamptons eatery that shares its name, also originated by Terry, in 1966.
The restored farmhouse boasts an open eat-in bar area, a takeout deli counter, both interior and patio dining, and a 100-plus-year-old maple tree dubbed Big Bertha. A pedal tractor playground next to the dining area keeps youngsters entertained.
The restaurant features extensive, moderately priced lunch and dinner menus emphasizing fresh seafood and popular steak and sandwich selections. Its namesake Lobster Roll and the popular “plate of puffers” (blowfish fried crispy in tempura batter) are just two dishes patrons can enjoy before rounding out their meal with a slice of Brieremere pie with Northside’s patented cinnamon or gingerbread ice cream.
With the senior Terry now occupied with writing children’s books and operating the Gingerbread Factory, the restaurant is managed by Terry’s son Rick, Lisa Maher and Peter Toole, who oversees the kitchen.
