Edwin Frederick Fickeissen Jr. of Southold and St. Augustine, Fla., died on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25. He was 70 years old.
“Fred” was born in Greenport on April 15, 1940, to Edwin and Alberta (Dickerson) Fickeissen Sr. After graduating from Southold High School, he served for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge from service, he worked for Grumman Aircraft Corp. for 28 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Southold and served on the board of directors for the U.S.S. Yorktown CV-10. In 1998, Fred left the North Fork and moved to St. Augustine, Fla. He returned last month.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bill Mullen of Southold; a brother, Albert Fickeissen of Southold; and four grandchildren, Liam, Matthew, Brendan and Lauren Mullen. He was predeceased by his son Stevan Frederick Fickeissen in 1997.
The family received friends Sunday, Nov. 28, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 29, at First Presbyterian Church in Southold. The Rev. Dr. Peter Kelley officiated. Interment, with military honors, was at Southold Presbyterian Cemetery.
