Greenport: Recognition for Porters who played final regular season game

Maybe I’m a tad more emotional than usual about the “winds” of change, as I’ve sat outside the past three Friday nights watching the Porters play football in the wind, cold and rain. I am, therefore, starting my countdown to summer earlier this year. There are only 229 days until the official start of summer. I can’t wait!
Speaking of Porters football, I’d like to recognize the seniors who played in their last regular season game this past Friday: Tremayne Hansen, Mike Mangiamele, Taylor Lindsay, Dan Canales, Tyler McNeil, Christian Napolitano, David Martinez, Marcos Barroyo, Chris Manfredi, Dan Neighly, Alex Passanant, Keith Berezny and Yanni Rauseo.
The senior cheerleaders who cheer them on are Callie Bubb, Holly Sponza, Donna Angevine, Kaitlin McElroy and Christine Ramnarine. Thank you one and all for the time you’ve put in and the memories you’ve made for all of us Greenport gridiron fans. Good luck in the playoffs this weekend.
The season of giving is just around the corner. Jillian Ruroede has come up with a wonderful idea to have an Angel Tree at the school. The tree will consist of wishes from families within the school, and you can help a family in need for the holidays by picking up an Angel wish in the school lobby on Monday, Nov. 22. All wrapped gifts are due at the school by Dec. 17, with the angel attached. What a great idea! For further information, you can reach Jillian at 477-1950, ext. 232.
On Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, there will be a fundraiser dinner to “Save the Legion” at Skipper’s Restaurant from noon to 9 p.m. Dinner choices are Yankee pot roast, chicken parmesan or stuffed flounder. Takeout and advance sale tickets are $17. At the door, tickets are $18. Tickets are available at Skipper’s. Let’s get out there and support the Legion and our veterans who are members.
Greenport’s senior Girl Scout troop will hold a Veterans Day memorial service at Mitchell Park at 11 a.m. The public is invited.
If you’re setting up your calendar for November, be sure to include the ELIH Auxiliary’s Boutique on Wheels on Friday, Nov. 12, where you can shop for beautiful handbags, scarves, shawls and more. It will be held in the hospital conference room from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For further information, call 477-5196.
Happy 98th birthday today, Nov. 4, to former longtime Greenport resident Elbertie “Bert” Thornhill from her son, Jim, daughter, Judith Terry, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who are all celebrating with her in Greensboro, N.C.
Also celebrating this week are Heidi Johanson today, the 4th; Ryan Golden on the 6th; Sean Furman, who turns 1, along with Sue Raynor and Barbara Richter on the 7th; my uncle Jack Heaney and Tara Detrick on the 8th; Tanya Gates on the 9th; and my cousin Greg Wallace, Billy Robins, Jenna Finne and Ron Rock on Nov. 10.
The happiest of anniversaries is wished to Sally and Ray Corwin, who celebrate their 36th anniversary Nov. 5.
Next Thursday is a holiday with no mail delivery, so we columnists have an early deadline for next week. I’ll be sending mine in this evening, so if you’ve got something you’d like included, please call me now!
