Mattituck-Laurel: So much to be thankful for

‘Over the river and through the woods’ is where many of us will be headed tomorrow as we celebrate Thanksgiving. This is the time of year when we reflect on how grateful we are for good health, happiness, family and friends. It’s also a time when we share with others the bounty that we put on our tables. To you and yours, may you enjoy a blessed and happy Thanksgiving.
Speaking of sharing, the Mattituck Fire Department Auxiliary and the Lions Club are asking you to share with our local children. New, unwrapped toys will be collected for babies and children ages infant to 12. Collection spots are Capital One Bank on Love Lane, Michelle’s Beauty Salon, Pike Street Pilates and Wendy’s Deli. At a time when the economy is rocky, let’s not forget the true joy seen in the eyes of a child opening a toy on Christmas morning! The collection will continue until Dec. 14.
It’s not too late to register for the MCTA Turkey Trot. Just come down to the school between 7:45 and 8:45 on Thanksgiving morning. Proceeds will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and scholarships for MHS seniors. If you’re not sure this is for you, ask someone who’s participated in the past. Everyone says it’s the best way to kick off the holiday season. Registration forms are available at mufsd.com.
Happy birthday wishes for this week are sent to Jarret Palmer on Nov. 25; Chrissy Viola, John Scaramucci and Kyle Dillingham on the 26th; Tommy Boucher and Jenna Williams on the 27th; Angela Smith on the 28th; and Torie Cande and Jeffrey Boomer on Dec. 1.
Happy anniversary wishes go to Bill and Allison Kraebel, who toast their years as husband and wife on Nov. 26.
Bravo to the cast and crew of the junior high production of “Aesop’s Foibles.” Special thanks to director Marissa Russo and her assistant, Casey Burns, who made this show a huge success. Special thanks also to all the community members who came to see the show and donated nonperishable food items for the high school student council’s CAST food drive.
The high school’s Holiday Auction will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. There will be over 150 prizes and a 50/50. You must be present during the drawing of the prizes. Proceeds go to Art Partners for scholarships and special events.
