Mattituck-Laurel: Fire Department will bring Santa around this weekend

With the turkey leftovers finally gone, many of us will be spending every moment getting ready for the next big day. For those of you celebrating the beginning of Hanukkah, may you enjoy the Festival of Lights with loved ones.

Every weekend from now until Christmas is packed full of all kinds of holiday festivities. This Saturday, Dec. 4, Santa will arrive on a Mattituck Fire Department fire truck at the Waldbaum’s Shopping Plaza. The event is planned and coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce. Hot cocoa will be provided by Starbucks and cookies by Nabisco. As always, the Mattituck Cinema will welcome all to a 10 a.m. movie, after which pictures will be taken with Santa at Rite Aid.

After Santa’s arrival, why not head over to the Anchorage, where the Browers’ Woods Homeowners Association will host their annual Holiday Fair. This event has something for everyone. Wreaths, poinsettias and roping will be on sale.Cartoonist Ed Klein will be on hand and Santa will visit so your child can have a picture taken with him. Hot and cold refreshments will be available and the tree will be lit at 4 p.m. as Santa looks on.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, Dec. 9, when the Mattituck High School Art Partners club will host a holiday auction. This year, in addition to all the prizes available, there will be a 50/50 raffle. You must be present to win. Come out and support the arts in our school.

Congratulations to Lenny Llewellyn, who was recognized Nov. 20 by the United States Power Squadron for 50 years of service as a NYS boating instructor.

Special birthday wishes go to James Sheppard, who will turn 21 on Dec. 4. James is a student at the Manhattan School of Music.

Also celebrating birthdays this week are Tom Sidlauskas, Sarah Carter and Dylan Gibaldi today, Dec. 2; Hudson Miller and Riley Peterson on the 3rd; Nancy Doherty, Ryan Strong and Danny Letteriello on the 4th; and Matthew Ianno on the 8th.

The Danish girls’ basketball team is back in Mattituck. Both the JV and varsity teams are visiting and will attend classes with our students. If you see some of our guests around town, please show them some Mattituck hospitality.

Just a reminder: Unwrapped toys are being collected by the Mattituck Fire Department Auxiliary in conjunction with the Lions Club. Toys for infants through age 12 are welcome and can be dropped off at Wendy’s Deli, Capital One Bank on Love Lane and Michelle’s Salon and Pilates on Pike Street.
