Joseph Francis McIlvain Jr.

Joseph Francis McIlvain Jr., 86, of Southold, formerly of North Massapequa, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4.

He is the beloved husband of Jane (née Fiederowicz) and the loving father of Constance, of Dallas, Texas, Joseph (Doreen), of North Massapequa, Honore, of Cutchogue, Brian (Marie), of Oakdale, Kevin, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Joyce (Eddie) Sims of Oakdale. He also leaves behind his beautiful grandchildren Brian and Patrick McIlvain, Katelyn and Charlie Sims and Philip, Jane and Chrissy Gehring; and one great-grandchild, Reese Steiner. His sister, Joan Masters of Ohio, also survives.

Joseph proudly served the United States Marine Corps during World War II, from 1944 to 1946, as a VMSB 343 Radio Gunner on Midway Island.

He is a graduate of Duquesne University and honorably served the Nassau County Police Department, attaining the rank of detective lieutenant.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday, Nov. 7, at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, Nov. 8, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Burial with military honors followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
