Russell wants village green for Mattituck

TIM KELLY PHOTO Southold Supervisor Scott Russell wants to turn the intersection at Old Sound Avenue and Main Road in Mattituck into a village green.

Supervisor Scott Russell will appear at the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce meeting Monday night to explain his proposal to close off Old Sound Avenue where it meets Love Lane and the Main Road in Mattituck and convert the area into a village green, complete with a gazebo.
“Southold and Cutchogue have village greens and Mattituck has McDonalds,” the supervisor said.
In addition to providing room for public events, the supervisor’s plan would create an unbroken sidewalk link between Mattituck’s two commercial areas, Love Lane and the Mattituck Plaza shopping center. The chamber will meet at Cliff’s Elbow Room in Jamesport, starting at 6:30. For reservations call Pat Patchell at 722-3458
