Southold-Peconic: Wingo for elementary students Nov. 5

With Election Day over, we can hopefully look forward to campaign promises kept and, if nothing else, an end to dinnertime political phone calls and mailboxes full of political advertisements. Even Pat Boone got in on the action and “called” my husband one evening.

Elementary students are invited to play WINGO this Friday evening, Nov. 5, 7-9 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Neuroscientist Dr. Stephen Dewey will discuss “The Effect of Drug Abuse on the Human Brain” in the district auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. Students, parents and community members are invited to attend.
All runners/walkers participating in the Southold Athletic Association’s 5K and half-mile Fun Run fundraiser this Saturday, Nov. 6, must check in between 7 and 8:10 a.m. at the elementary school. If you haven’t registered yet, visit southoldufsd.net.

Any SHS student in grades 7-11 who’d like their school portrait retaken can do so on Wednesday, Nov. 10. You must bring your portrait package with you. Contact the high school office at 765-5080 with any questions.
Those celebrating birthdays this week include Greg Savage on Nov. 3; Kathy Desbonnet, Melissa Surozenski and Olivia Medford, who turns 7, today, the 4th; Deb Kujawski and Frank Schmidt on the 5th; Arleen Peck on the 8th; and Drew Averette and Abby and Sara Abrams, who turn 17, on the 9th.
Dr. and Mrs. Ronald Yedloutschnig toasted 54 years of marriage on Oct. 26. They were married in Frederick, Md., in 1956 and have made Southold their home since 1966. We wish them many more happy years together.
Southold Cub Scout Pack 6 will host its annual spaghetti dinner and chinese auction fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 12, 5-7 p.m., at the Southold American Legion hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. The auction will take place after dinner. The prizes will feature theme baskets and many items for the kids.
Cool weather lends itself to comfort food and that’s what you can expect at Southold Historical Society’s harvest dinner on Thursday, Nov. 11, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Soundview. Choose from pot roast or salmon. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Prince Building on the Main Road or at the door. A 50/50 raffle will also be held.
