Two fundraisers to help Maureen’s Haven

Maureen’s Haven, which provides shelter and food for the East End’s homeless during the late fall and winter, will benefit from two local fund-raising efforts.
On Nov. 10, Cross Sound Ferry contributed $2,000 to the program that operates at Mattituck Presbyterian Church and another $2,000 to Peconic Community Council, which oversees all Maureen’s Haven programs on the North and South forks. The donations represent proceeds from Cross Sound Ferry’s July 4 fireworks cruise.
This Saturday, Nov. 20, The Giving Room of Southold will host a sale of hand-knitted items to raise funds for Maureen’s Haven. More than 30 volunteers were enlisted to knit scarves, hats, shawls and other items for the sale and were provided with yarn, needles and patterns contributed by Now and Zen Yarns.
In addition to the knitted items, gifts contributed by local businesses will be auctioned, including  private yoga lessons with Jen Conway, Claire Jannuzzi and Kate Alesio; massages from area practitioners; piano lessons; meals and an overnight at Luce Hawkins; dinner and a night’s stay at Mohegan Sun Casino; a cooking lesson with James Beard award-winning chef Claudia Fleming; cases of North Fork Potato Chips; and gift certificates from businesses like The Greenport Tea Company.
Jamesport Manor Inn and North Fork Table & Inn will provide food and Lenz will provide wine.
A suggested donation of $10 at the door will also go to Maureen’s Haven.
In addition, on Sunday, Nov. 21, The Giving Room will host a donation-only yoga class led by Claire Jannuzzi with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Maureen’s Haven.
