East Marion church gets facelift

The East Marion Community Church has undergone a face-lift, just in time for winter.

Workers have replaced the roof on both the 1886 church and parsonage and painted both, according to Karen Street, wife of Pastor David Street.

The sale of an adjacent church-owned property helped fund the $100,000 project. The job entailed removing old shingles to get down to the original cedar base. Plywood went on top of that and then the new shingles. The new roofing is a darker green than the original.

Crews also replaced the cedar shakes on the church’s two steeples. The project’s final phase is re-landscaping the grounds in the spring.
