Blotter: Copper wire stolen from DEC dock in Mattituck

An employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reported on the afternoon of Dec. 9 that someone had stolen $300 worth of copper wire from the DEC’s dock on Naugles Drive in Mattituck sometime since the previous day.
• Brittney A. Pressler, 21, of Southold was charged with drug possession, trespassing, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia after a homeowner on Main Bayview Road, Southold, called to complain that Ms. Pressler was rummaging through a junked vehicle on her property at about 6 a.m. on Dec. 10, according to police reports. Police said that the homeowner had told Ms. Pressler twice this month to stay away from her property. Police also said that Ms. Pressler was in possession of Suboxone, an opiate derivative used to treat heroin addiction, without a prescription, and several hypodermic needles and a spoon that may have contained heroin residue.
• A chimney fire at the home of an 84-year-old Peconic resident set the entire back section of the house on fire in the early morning of Dec. 10. The Southold and Cutchogue fire departments responded to the blaze on Robinson Lane just before 6 a.m. No injuries were reported.
• An 83-year-old resident of Route 25 in Laurel was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center on the afternoon of Dec. 9, after she reported a natural gas leak in her house to police. The Mattituck Fire Department, which transported her to the hospital, aired out the house and called National Grid, which located the source of the leak and repaired it.
Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
