Health beat: Local woman named Health Care Hero

• Karleen Schultz, a registered nurse at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, has been named a Health Care Hero for 2010 by Long Island Business News. Ms. Schultz’ nursing career has spanned more than 34 years and her expertise and skill have been invaluable to the psychiatry unit at ELIH, according to hospital vice president Pat Kiernan. Most recently, Ms. Schultz was involved in upgrading and implementing a new computer system to manage vital patient care information and advance patient safety.
