Mattituck-Laurel: Local students participate in Parrish Art Museum exhibition

While the weather outside is getting a bit nippy, our art students have been busy painting both the town and getting ready for tonight’s annual Holiday Auction at Mattituck High School. Come and support the Art Partners Club and maybe win a prize. You must be present to win!

For weeks our young artists have also been preparing for the Parrish Art Museum’s student exhibition. The theme of this year’s exhibit is “Students’ View of American Still Life.” An opening reception was held on Dec. 4 and the show will continue through Jan. 23. Contact the museum directly for hours at [email protected]. Participating MHS students are Veronica Reitz, Nicole Palladini, Natasha Van de Wetering, Patricija Markovaite, Amy Zurek, Ashley Marron, Mirin Greenberger, Mallaigh Nolan, Ericka Bundrick, Claire Finnican, Catherine Connelly, Morgan Gildersleeve, Ashley Goeller, Lauryn Serrano, Hanna Baglivi, Rebecca Grohoski, Mark DiLeo, Kira Buckel, Caitlin Penny, Brigid Bozsnyak, Jackie Drake, Cordelia Larsen, Yuliya Palianok, Sara Perkins, Shannon Sheridan-Chiaro, Brittany Tumulty, Andre Vega, Doug Beebe, Max Burlingame, Colin Keil, Kate Mangiamele, Katharine Golde, Efrain Lozada, Andrew Vescovi, Michael Arpaia, Peter Van de Wetering, Robert Veitch and David Folk.

The beginning of a new tradition is always an adventure, and our art students, under the watchful eyes of teachers Mr. Jablonski, Ms. Rose and Ms. Harned, brought the holidays to life during a recent field trip. Have you noticed the hand-painted holiday doors and store windows in the Waldbaum’s shopping center? The community project was the brainchild of Sharon Sailor and was sponsored by DoLittle’s. Participating MHS art students were Ana Catalan, Emily Fliss, Andre Vega, Mirin Greenberger, Jenny Smith, Jessica McDonald, Kellianne Gatto, Katherine Wilcenski, Ashley Goeller, Colin Keil, Catherine Connelly, Morgan Gildersleeve, Nicole Palladini, Ashley Marron and Brigid Bozsnyak. Participating businesses were: DoLittle’s, Jen’s Chinese Restaurant, Michelangelo’s and Bahia.

Celebrating birthdays this week are Rebecca Caracciolo and Jack DiGregorio today, Dec. 9; Karley Ward on the 10th; Samantha Kowalsick on the 11th; Gabriella Finora on the 14th; and Deb Cahill, Myles Caracciolo and Ed McDonald on the 15th.
Looking for a gift with school spirit? The Mattituck Athletic Booster Club has Mattituck sports clothing on sale at basketball games during December. Drop in and purchase a sweatshirt, seat cushion, T-shirt or other clothing item for a gift under the tree.
Music is especially important this time of year and our school’s concerts are always exceptional. Our musicians invite you to be in the audience on Dec. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m., when the junior high and high school holiday concerts promise to be a high point of your season.

Just a reminder: Toys are still being collected at Wendy’s Deli. Michelle’s, Pike Street Pilates and Capital One Bank on Love Lane for the Mattituck Fire Department Auxiliary/Lions Club Toy Drive. Unwrapped toys for kids from infants to age 12 will be greatly appreciated.
