Business Beat: Hess station to be discussed at chamber meeting

• New officers of the Long Island Merlot Alliance took office on Jan. 1. They are: Russell McCall, owner of McCall Wines, president; Roman Roth, winemaker and technical director at Wölffer Estate Vineyard, executive vice president; Hal Ginsburg, owner of Clovis Point, treasurer. Gilles Martin, consulting winemaker for Sherwood House Vineyards and McCall Wines, will serve as technical advisor. The alliance plans to launch or advance several initiatives this year, including blind tastings, technical consultations with an international oenologist, collecting and sharing harvest data, and expanding the Harvest 2011 fundraiser.

• Kate Carpluk has joined Town & Country Real Estate’s Mattituck office as an associate broker and senior vice president, after a 14-year tenure with Century 21 Albertson.

• The future of the Hess gas station property on Main Road will be the topic of discussion at the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce’s next dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Bayview Inn in South Jamesport. A representative of the Hess Corporation will talk about the company’s request, which the Town Board denied several years ago, for a change of zone to permit the opening of a new convenience store. • Due to the forecasted winter storm, the Riverhead Chamber of Commerce has canceled the January “Eggs & Issues” breakfast meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Hilton Garden Inn on Route 58.
