Edward Victor Ciaglo

Edward Victor Ciaglo of Shelter Island died Jan. 22 at the age of 68.

Born Aug. 5, 1942, in Laurel to Chester and Anna (Gatz) Ciaglo, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and attained the rank of captain. He was the recipient of three Good Conduct Ribbons, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Bronze Star, three Purple Hearts, a Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and a Silver Star.

After his honorable discharge from the service, he enjoyed a long career as a pilot with Evergreen International Airlines.

In the community, Ed was a commander of the American Legion and a member of the Shelter Island Fire Department and Shelter Island Lions Club. He was also a dedicated longtime donor of blood platelets.
He is survived by his wife, Magdalyn “Maggie” (née Caputo); two brothers, Chester, of Virginia, and Stephen, of Illinois; and a sister, Barbara Berdinka of Laurel.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 25 at Our Lady of the Isle R.C. Church on Shelter Island by Father Peter DeSanctis.  Military honors were rendered by members of the U.S. Marine Corps.
