Health Beat: Mattituck-Laurel Library offers health insurance counseling program

• Jason Welch, physical therapist and rehabilitation director of Gentiva Home Health will speak about preventing falls and injuries at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing, Rehabilitation & Adult Day Health Care in Greenport on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 6:30 p.m. The program is geared for seniors and caretakers. • Mattituck-Laurel Library is hosting a program sponsored by the Suffolk County Office for the Aging offering free individual and confidential health insurance counseling to seniors and other Medicare-eligible persons on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1:30-3 p.m.
The library will also host T’ai Chi practice sessions weekly for six weeks, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 25, 9-10 a.m. The fee for the full program is $25, payable at the first session. Call 298-4134.

• Georgia Charland has been named employee of the month for January at Peconic Landing. Ms. Charland works for the dining services division of the Greenport life care community and always has a positive attitude, according to John Anderson, director of fine dining. “The residents embrace her infectious personality and nonstop energy,” Mr. Anderson said. She often volunteers for unpopular duties and is an essential part of the café team, he said. She joined the Peconic Landing staff in April 2008.
