Helen L. Hansen

Former East Marion resident Helen L. Hansen of Rocky Point, N.C., died there Dec. 26. She was 89.

Born Sept. 18, 1921, in Greenport to Gottfried and Ethel (Seaman) Arnold, she grew up in East Marion and graduated from Greenport High School in 1941. She enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a corporal during World War II, during which time she met her husband, Claude, who was serving in the U.S. Navy.

They lived in Amagansett, then East Marion and eventually settled in Stuart, Fla., where she worked for 30 years at Solartron Energy Systems, Inc.

After her husband died, she moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter. According to family, she loved the beach and spending time with her dogs.

Predeceased by her husband; her son, Dane; her sister, Gertrude; her brothers, George, Robert, John and Frank Arnold, she is survived by her daughter, Claudia Spuhler of Rocky Point, N.C.; her sisters, Ida Vail of Greenport, Catherine Prackelt of Newburgh, N.Y., and Ruth Hommel of Catskill, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Rocky Point, N.C. Cremation was private. A memorial service will take place at a future date at East Marion Cemetery.
