Kenneth G. Minnick

Kenneth G. Minnick of Laurel died Jan. 23, 2011, at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead after a 14-year battle with bone cancer. He was 62.

A decorated Vietnam War veteran, Mr. Minnick was born June 14, 1948, in Mineola to George and Novella (Callegari) Minnick.

He graduated from Riverhead High School in 1967 and served in the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry Division from 1968 to 1970. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He married Merry Lou May in Riverhead in 1973 and was a facilities inspector for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Farmingdale until his retirement in 2005.

Mr. Minnick is survived by his wife; his daughter, Lisa Tooker of Riverhead; his son, Jamie, of Laurel; his brothers, Gary, of Riverhead, and Richie, of Calverton; and his sister, Adele Abrahamsen of Riverhead.

Visiting hours were Jan. 26 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 27, at Living Water Full Gospel Church in Riverhead, with the Rev. George Dupree officiating. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
