Oysterponds school chief heading to the South Fork?
Dr. Stuart Rachlin, who just negotiated a $100,000 buyout of his contract as superintendent of Oysterponds Union Free School District, is one of two finalists for a position as part-time superintendent of the Wainscott School District.
Dr. Rachlin and George Aman of East Hampton are vying to replace Dominic Annacone, who is retiring from the district after 14 years. Both are to participate in an informational public meeting Wednesday and the Wainscott Board of Education is expected to make a selection by Jan. 15.
Although the position was advertised as paying between $45,000 and $50,000, there’s no additional information on salary. The candidate tapped for the job would be expected to work two days a week, just as Dr. Annacone did, and be available as needed, according to board president Nancy McCaffrey.
Dr. Rachlin and the Oysterponds Board of Education negotiated for several months to end his full-time contract with the district as of Dec. 31, 2010.
This month, interim principal Joan Frisicano began at Oysterponds and Dr. Rachlin is required to work 20 hours a week and be available to the board as needed.
The plan calls for that schedule to continue until June or until a new principal and superintendent are hired. How this arrangement would be affected if Dr. Rachlin were to be chosen by Wainscott is unclear.
